Southmoor Academy, Sunderland
Southmoor Academy is a secondary school in Sunderland and Chatta's first ever secondary Hub School. Part of Aspire North East Multi-Academy Trust, Southmoor is demonstrating that Chatta is making a powerful difference with KS3 pupils across subjects, across ability levels, and across the whole curriculum.
As a Chatta Hub School, Southmoor hosts demonstration sessions for visiting teachers and leaders who want to see Chatta in action with secondary-age students. These visits offer an opportunity to watch KS3 lessons taught by Southmoor staff, and to see what changes when pupils are given the structure, scaffolding and confidence Chatta provides.
Why Chatta at Southmoor?
Key Stage 3 teachers at Southmoor work across many subjects, many abilities and many needs. Chatta gives them a simple, flexible approach that works with what they already do: strengthening how pupils hold onto knowledge, articulate their thinking and build confidence as learners.
Through inclusive whole-class teaching, live modelling and audio-visual scaffolding, pupils retain and understand more, and speak and write with greater confidence, in every subject, at every level.
What's Changed?
Since working with Chatta at Southmoor, teachers across different subjects and year groups have seen a consistent pattern:
- Students speak and write with greater detail and accuracy
- SEND pupils access and express learning more fully
- Vocabulary (including subject-specific tier 3 language) is retained and used
- Pupils who previously struggled to structure responses are doing so independently
- Confidence has grown visibly, particularly through paired talk and class presentations
- Teachers describe it as simple, flexible and easy to adapt across subjects and needs

Book Your Visit
Demonstration sessions take place on Thursday 7th May 2026, starting at 8:45am with lunch provided. The session finishes at 12:30pm.
School leaders, heads of department, SENCOs, inclusion leads and trust advisors are warmly invited to observe KS3 sessions and see how Chatta transforms outcomes for all pupils.
