Talking Football

Chatta’s impact is often strongest when teachers teach with it, live modelling and audio-visual scaffolding. It can be equally powerful beyond the classroom.

Recently, a group of children sat in the press box at Portman Road, watching Ipswich Town FC take on Millwall, captured key moments live, and later wrote their own match reports back at school.

The project “Talking Football” was created and led by Gabrielle Deed (SENCO) and Kelly Head (Headteacher) at The Willows Primary School in partnership with Marcus Smith from Ipswich Town Foundation. Eight weeks of sessions built around football, language, emotions and expression.

Chatta helped the children capture what they were seeing, sequence it, and find the words to bring it to life. Then they wrote. Real match reports. The kind journalists write.

These are children who can often find it hard to find the words. On that Saturday afternoon at Portman Road, they found them and we are glad Chatta played a part.
