The Chatta approach turns experiences into stories by linking images with modelled language and oral rehearsal.
The Chatta approach is used in the early years classroom to model sequencing and storytelling. Teachers and teaching assistants create audio-visual Chatta storyboards with the children based on the activities and experiences which have been taking place. The modelling of language, visual scaffolding and frequent opportunities for oral rehearsal ensure the children become skilled and confident speakers who are able to turn their thoughts into words.
Chatta can turn every activity and experience into an opportunity for storytelling and interaction. In smaller groups and interventions the approach is very effective for closing gaps in attainment, improving vocabulary and sentence structure and developing social skills.
